Rhyme and Rhythm

Rhyme is as important to children's poems as rhythm. Children love rhymes. They adore them!

late, Kate, ate, bait, etc.
The most effective rhyme patterns are: ABCB; AABB; or ABAB.

Often, the rhyme will take care of the rhythm. As you find silly words that rhyme, a story can come out on its own, and the iamb (the favorite rhythm of children) will emerge.
